:::SPECIAL::: # Best spots to see the traditional "Torii" in Kyoto and Tokyo! Let's visit some famous Japanese Shrines!





Other than the most popular Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine in Kyoto,

where can you see Torii in Tokyo?

Many of you have seen this vermilion colored gate outside many Japanese shrines. However, have you seen thousands of them lining together one after one?

In Kyoto, there are many famous sightseeing spots for tourists, like Kiyomizu-dera Temple (清水寺), Kinkaku-ji (金閣寺), and Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine (伏見稲荷大社) which is famous for the thousands of torii gates!

What is Torii?
Torii is a traditional Japanese gate commonly found at the entrance of shrines. It symbolizes the transition from the profane to the sacred. Torii are usually made from wood or stone, and they are usually painted in vermilion color.

Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine (伏見稲荷大社)


Because of the famous "Senbon-torii" (Thousands of torii gates), Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine has now become the most popular sightseeing spot for foreign visitors when they visit Kyoto!



Actually in Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, you can see many fox statues and products. Why?

The reason is "fox" is actually the symbol of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine. It is said that foxes came to help the farmers catch mice from eating their harvest. So that's how they became the protectors for the farmers.


Now we are at the most popular spot in Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine! Senbon-torii (thousands of torii gate)!


There are two entrances of the Senbon-torii. No matter which entrance you choose, they will meet in the middle point!


Just walk under the torii gates and experience this traditional Japanese shrine slowly.

Interested in walking under the torii gates but Kyoto is not your destination next time? Don't worry. Actually there is another famous shrine in Tokyo where you can also see some nice torii gates!

Nezu Shrine (根津神社)

Nezu Shrine is named one of the best 10 shrines in Tokyo. It is one of the oldest shrine in Japan too! It is said that it has been established over 1,900 years ago. Parts of the shrine are also designated as nationally Important Cultural Properties!!

Not far from Ueno, in Nezu Shrine, you can also find torii gates in line!! If you visit in Spring, you can get some nice pictures with the rhododendron flowers too. How beautiful it is!
